Among other things, Jocelyn loves reading, writing, art and passing on what she’s learned to others. In 1972 she began a professional career in writing as a copywriter for CJDC Radio in Dawson Creek, BC. From there she went on to become a journalist, an oral storyteller, a published author of fiction, an editor and a publisher. Her own most recently published book is a memoir of sorts titled Definitely Not James Herriot, published in 2021 by Peregrin Publishing.
With two grandparents who were artists, art has also figured large in her life. In 2000 she began to draw and paint on a regular basis for her own enjoyment. Her favorite drawing medium is pencil and in painting she works mainly in watercolor. “Pencil gives me complete control, but I like the surprises watercolor provides,” she says.
Currently, she is the Curriculum Chair for Campbell River ElderCollege where she enjoys teaching things to students age 50+ who are there simply because they love to learn, and the camaraderie of colleagues who also enjoy giving back to the community.
“Every time I write something, teach something about writing to someone, or do some art, I discover something new and interesting. I think that’s what writing and art are all about…discovering.”
